Perfect Memories

Nina Krchnavek

Runner up, ages 8-11 poetry category

Laughing eating sweets

Playing around climbing trees

Why oh why did these memories

Have to sink away into another day

Why oh why

I say

Running through the grass and flowers

Turning minutes into hours

Shame it only lasts one day

It would be longer if I had my way

Choosing our destination

Ready for our one day vacation

Don’t know where we’re gonna stay

It doesn’t matter anyway

Wishing it could last

Not stay in the past

A perfect day

That has run away

I don’t believe it’s true

It makes me feel so blue

To say goodbye it makes me wanna cry

Running through the grass and flowers

Turning minutes into hours

Shame it only lasts one day

It would be longer if I had my way

Choosing our destination

Ready for our one day vacation

Don’t know where we’re gonna stay

It doesn’t matter anyway
