Six Words. One Story. Endless Possibility.
Stories have always had the power to make us pause, question what we believe, recognise experiences beyond our own, and see the world differently.
In 2027, The WILDE Foundation continues its commitment to creating spaces where stories can be told, voices can be heard, and imagination can become a catalyst for change.
From our annual Short Story & Poetry Competition to our Women’s Month programme, 2027 will centre the power of words, particularly the words of people whose stories deserve to be heard.
How much can you say in six words?
For the 2027 WILDE Short Story/Poetry Competition, we are challenging writers to discover just how much can be expressed when every word matters.
The theme this year is The 6-Word Story, a bold and minimalist form of storytelling that challenges writers to create a complete, powerful story using just six words.
Six words may seem simple. They are not.
With such a small canvas, every word must earn its place. Writers are invited to use precision, imagination and emotional impact to create stories that linger long after they have been read.
Your six words might spark curiosity. They might reveal a moment of truth. They might make someone laugh, break their heart, or leave them wondering what happened before or after that single line.
The possibilities are endless.
Whether you are an established writer, an emerging creative, a young storyteller or simply someone who loves playing with words, this competition is an invitation to experiment with the possibilities of storytelling.
Because sometimes, the smallest stories can leave the biggest impressions.
Six words. One story. Endless possibility.
